Fit in some clay shooting on the trip and incredibly hit 4 out of 15. Some bucolic small town living for sure down here….sigh, maybe in another life. If you’re an #Outlander fan like me, you might see Fraser’s Ridge in one of these photos!

Ah, today I ‘enjoyed’ outdoor dining at its fi Ah, today I ‘enjoyed’ outdoor dining at its finest on the Lower East Side. It was hard to decide which fine establishment to choose. Ultimately, my choice was ‘none of the above’ but we did find a fairly nice option. Unlike many nostalgic New Yorkers, I loathe the lower east side. Dirty with a side of rats. I never got the appeal….#outdoordining #lowereastside #newyorkcity

Believe it or not, I’ve lived my life without ea Believe it or not, I’ve lived my life without eating one actual date. I know I’ve had them in foods here and there but, as far as saying ‘hey hand me a date will ya?’….that’s never happened. But this week, I found myself in Sky Valley, CA (the names here are terrific. I was also in Wonder Valley at another point), home of Sam Cobb’s date farm. Sam is a voluble fellow full of good humor and corny jokes. He calls himself ‘The Real Sam Cobb’ over and over not that there’s another one you might mix him up with but….well never mind, it’s a strained joke. You’ll have to take the tour to hear him tell it. Sam LOVES dates, almost as much as my wife Susan so I couldn’t say no when he climbed a tree and handed me one of his ‘black gold’ dates to try. Guess what? It was delicious! The dates are in all those hanging white bags, growing juicier by the hour. So if you’re ever in Sky Valley (near Palms Springs and Joshua Tree) please look up ole Sam and take the tour. Well worth it! He’ll regale you with stories of his life, how he wanted to be a farmer from the age of three and how he’s one of 15 kids in his family. Lucky No. 13!!

In recent years, some have disputed this but all you need to do is look at the ‘window’ cutouts on the side to see that this wall was part of a stadium at one time. I believe it’s the real deal and can still imagine Moonlight Graham playing here. #fieldofdreams #baseball #dodgers #gowanus

My memoir: Leaving Story Avenue: My Journey from the Projects to the Front Page

Publication Date: April, 2012

Ken Auletta, author and writer, The New Yorker magazine, says: Paul LaRosa has written a poignant and funny memoir that stretches in an unstraight line from mean Bronx streets to the newsroom of the Daily News. Along the way, in snappy prose, he sprinkles wisdom about New York, the pull of peers and of family, the ambition and pride that propels a working class kid to succeed, and a portrait of the zany New York Daily ...
